Taking patient care in complex cases to the next level, Sahyadri Hospitals is going the extra mile to ensure patients with otherwise no reprieve get back on recovery track.

In an effort to be known for ‘All about Possibilities’ experts including Dr. Ketan Apte – Business Head, Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospitals at Nagar Road, Deccan and Hadapsar; Dr. Bipin Vibhute – Liver and Hepatobiliary surgeon, Dr. Yadav Mundhe – Vascular and Interventional Radiologist and Dr. Amit Dhakoji – Epilepsy Surgeon and Neuro Surgeon shared the success story of rare cases and various complicated procedures conducted recently.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Apte said that while Pune is becoming a hub for complex care, Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital is leading patient care with many successful complex procedures on patients where there was little hope or reprieve.

“We are continuously on the path to be a synonym with possibilities so that no patient loses hope in any complex situations. We are there to hand-hold of our patients and provide them the best of the care and timely treatment,” he added

Dr. Dhakoji, elaborating about one of the complex cases, said that, “A 33-year-old woman, Chhaya Desai, had recurrent seizures. She was given multiple drugs but even with heavy dosage of medicines her seizures continued.

“This continued for 7-8 years and then she approached Sahyadri Super Speciality Hospital Deccan. She was evaluated for epilepsy, underwent video EEG and MRI which showed left mesial temporal sclerosis.

“She underwent surgery in January this year. She visited Sahyadri Hospital Deccan again in May 2018 and now she is completely seizure free and happy as her medications have also reduced,” he added.

Commenting on her recovery, Ms Desai said, “ I am completely seizure free and this has helped me in improving my social life. There is a reduction in my medications as well for which I am thankful to the doctors of Sahyadri Hospitals.”

In addition, Sahyadri Hospitals recently performed City’s first DVT Thrombectomy by using advanced technique called Angiojet.

Briefing more about this new technology, Dr. Munde said, “A 34-year-old engineer, had multiple episodes of giddiness and mild abdominal pain. Also he was suffering from breathlessness after climbing 5-10 steps. He was evaluated and treated in other hospital but didn’t improve on his symptoms. Then he choose to come to Sahyadri Hospitals for treatment.

After he came to us, our team of doctors, Dr. Amol Bansode, Dr. Ashish Patil and Dr. Sandeep Kulkarni (Gastroenterologist) evaluated the patient and did basic investigations like sonography and suspected block in veins of liver and largest vein in tummy called inferior vena cava (IVC). The clinical and sonography findings were confirmed by CT scan and then he was immediately referred to me for further management by minimally invasive endovascular techniques.”
