Dreams 2 Reality, Wide Wings Media & Rangeet Talim are organising a unique theatre competition, Maunaantar 2016, Pune’s first mime play competition which is to be conducted from July 8-10 at the Bharat Natya Mandir.
This is the third consecutive year of the competition. For the last two years, the competition has received over 20 entries from Pune as well as Mumbai. The focus of this competition is to emphasise purely on acting without the help of speech/dialogues. Importance will be on facial expressions, hand signals and body motions.
“Our focus is to bring in the element of mime. How would a person react if you remove speech and expression from the body movements? We want to try and bring out strong emotions through actions,” said Kaushal, organiser, Maunaantar 2016.
The competition will have all other aspects of a one-act play with lights, music, a proper set and makeup also being a part in the play.
