CMDA Launches Major E-waste Initiative

Computer & Media Dealers’ Association, Pune (CMDA) has launched a massive
e-waste collection activity in Pune region. The initiative was started coinciding with the World Environment Day on Tuesday.

CMDA is one of the premier associations of IT dealers and resellers in India. The initiative was inaugurated at the hands of Mayor Mukta Tilak, Vice Chancellor SPPU Dr Nitin Karmalkar in presence of President CMDA Pune Narendra Modi, Vice President Vivek Ashturkar, Ewaste Project Head Ramesh Rathi and Past President CMDA Suresh Joshi.

This collection of e-waste will be backed by recycling by the authorised recyclers. This entire activity will be carried out by adhering to the Government of India’s EPR norms for disposal of the said e-waste. About 20 collection centres across various locations will help collect the e- waste round the year.

Ms Tilak said that reuse is important for sustainable development . When new versions of electronic gadgets hit the market , the old versions must be updated and given to needy institutes so that they can use it in their day to day work.

“We have tied up with 50 such institutes. Experts in this field should come forward and also train the institutes on use of computers.”

Dr Karmalkar said that with technological disruptions number of gadgets and versions are increasing.

“We do have knowledge about disposal of regular day to day waste but there is little knowledge about scientific disposal of e waste . Therefore. this is a important and welcome initiative.”

Mr Rathi welcomed the audienc , Mr Modi gave a brief on the project while Mr Ashturkar proposed the vote of thanks .

The e-waste will be collected at 20 collection centres covering maximum area of Pune through CMDA members. E-waste collection bins will be put at all these places and an appeal has been made to corporate companies and people to bring their e-waste at these places.

All the 375 CMDA members and business owner are part of this initiative. CMDA is ISO 9000 -2015 complied association and the only IT association having said accreditation pan India. CMDA has been rated as the best IT Association in India for many years.
