An evening to reminisce Umrao Jaan, the legend, celebrated by the very first Urdu novel Umrao Jaan Ada by Mirza Hadi Ruswa and the film by Muzaffar Ali. There will be a discussion of the novel and the film followed by ghazals from the film performed by Pushpita Rath and Jawad Askari.
PUSHPIN RATH has been actively associated with Pune music circles for the past 15 years as a vocalist, compere, organiser and teacher of Hindustani Classical music. She holds a first-class Sangeet Visharad degree from the prestigious Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai. She has also performed in Pune, Mumbai, Bhubaneswar and Delhi.
JAWAD ASKARI an Iranian by origin, was born and brought up in Mumbai. He is a writer, poet, singer, actor and a compere. He has worked as a translator in Urdu and Persian in Hong Kong for 14 years. More recently, he acted in an Indo-Iranian film – ‘Salaam Mumbai’. He performs ghazal shows in public and at private mehfils.
