Deepak Shikarpur: Knowledge is still respected here

I have seen Pune changing/ transforming from a pensioner’s paradise to a professional’s hub of action in past 45 years. Somehow the rate of change has not been supported by infrastructure. But still I enjoy being a Punekar. Pune has retained its DNA of a traditional culture-loving and yet cosmopolitan nature. Now Pune has a clear demarcation of traditional old Pune in all Peths, Kothrud, Sinhagad Road and Deccan Gymkhana . Emerging hubs such as Aundh, Baner, Kharadi  are cosmopolitan. One can choose between the two. The city yet has academic/scientific  flavour and is Detroit and Oxford of the East. Knowledge is still respected here. Pune offers wealth creation opportunities to any person coming to the city in search. Mumbai is no longer the only place for seeking wealth any more in the state of Maharashtra. In fact emerging high tech industry has clearly chosen Pune as its favorite place. One can see average age going down from 50 to 20 as a result of these transformations. Due to lack of public transport infrastructure, haphazard planning and latest status of low water zone, Pune may not remain a city of choice in the future. Let us hope Pune Metro, focus on saving water and planting two crore trees will have positive impact in the future.
