While Pune houses some great retreats for all of us, often they aren’t places the kids can have a fun time.

We at Pune365 decided to take a child friendly jaunt around the city to check out some interesting places for children; spots that have more than play area with spaces that welcome, teach and nurture some fun times!

Gram Sanskruti Udyan

Also known as Pune’s first mock village, this place will give you and your children an interesting experience of the old world charm.

This village themed park will allow you to experience the village in it’s entirety, what with the dusty roads, farm land, bullocks, jungles, flea markets and the Maharashtrian feel..

Seven Wonders Park

Housing the miniatures of the seven wonders of the world, the Seven Wonders Park or Yashwantrao Chavan Park will definitely grab your attention. A quick walk through the lanes in the park will give your child an educational and fun-filled trip.

Children of any age would be thrilled to come here and play around along with their peers. They would love if they could carry some of their favourite trike or any other plaything with them. Parents would be happy if they can rest for a while and watch their little one mastering a tricycle. The sight of cartoon characters like Chota Bheem, Superman and a 3D movie of some all-time favourite story books will leave your little one delighted.

Appu Ghar

What’s better than giving your child a treat in the oldest amusement park in Pune.

Also known as Indira Gandhi Udyan, the place offers amazing and thrilling rides including Appu Columbus, My Fair lady, Roller Coaster, Merry Cups, Bhoot Bangala to name a few.

It is not only just for the young and naughty as their parents have options to help de-stress at this amusement park.

Aga Khan Palace

Built in 1892 by Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan, this world heritage site is the place where Mahatma Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi, Mahadevbhai Desai and Sarojini Naidu were imprisoned in 1942, during the freedom struggle.

Housing a spacious lawn, museum with historical artefacts, photographs and portraits that depict Gandhi’s life, the palace provides insights into our rich Indian heritage and the freedom struggle.

National War Museum

A dedicated museum to the post-independence war martyrs, National War Museum in Pune cantonment is a place to inspire the future of India and tell them stories about the fighters they can be proud of.

The museum was built in 1997 and is the only one in South Asia to be funded by the citizens. A Mig 23 BN, used in the Kargil War is on display at the memorial will certainly be of huge interest for the children.

The museum also features various weapons of war.

Timings: 9:30am to 12:30pm, 3:30pm to 6:30pm

Joshi’s Museum Of Miniature Railway

Finding a mention in the “Limca Book of Records 2004”, this is a ‘one of its kind’ Museum in India. The founder’s obsession for collecting train models led to the construction of this special hall that houses the miniature railways.

This is a fully functional museum with 65 signals, fences, lamp posts, flyovers etc. which have all been manufactured by hand, using chemical etching techniques.

This small, personal museum is perfect to get a peek into the history of railways and is a complete delight for children.

Blades Of Glory Cricket Museum

Believed to be the Biggest Cricket Museum in the World, this museum has been visited by the top names from the cricket fraternity.

Take your little master blaster to this place and he will never ask for anything else.

Spread over 4000sft, it has memoirs signed by famous cricketers from around the world.

From Clive Lloyd of West Indies to Australia’s Micheal Clarke’s Australia, this gallery displays exclusive memorablia including bats signed by each of the 11 World Cup-winning teams.

Pu La Deshpande Japanese Garden or Pune-Okayama Friendship Garden

Inspired by the 300-year-old Okayama’s K?raku-en Garden, it is one of the largest gardens located on Sinhagad Road. This Japanese garden has been named after Pu La Deshpande, a well-known Marathi writer from Maharashtra and is popular for movie shoots.

With a wide stretch of open area, it is perfect for toddlers and children to roam freely.

Do note however, that photography here is strictly prohibited.

Timings: 6am to 10:30am and 4pm to 8pm
