Tieto Software and HSBC GLT set the tone registering easy wins over new-entrants Johnson Controls India and Deustche Bank Operations India (DBOI) on the opening day of the 2nd Prithvi Edifice Cup 2016 Inter IT T20 Cricket Championship, at Deccan Gymkhana here on Saturday.
Tieto, opting to bat first after winning the toss, scored an 86-run win over Johnson Controls India at the Deccan Gymkhana ground. Tieto had Imtiyav Shaikh and Vikram Mali move the scoreboard regularly. Together they put on a 93-run second-wicket partnership off just 62 balls.
Imtiyav (60 off 42 balls) was the aggressor and in the process top-scored in Tieto’s innings which ended at 177 for 8 from their quota of 20 overs.
In the process, Imiyav had the distinction of scoring the first fifty of the tournament, which was laced with eight boundaries and one six.
Mali (24) and Swapnil Upadhye (26) were other contributors to the innings, while Rijwan Parkar (3/33) was the pick for Johnson Controls India.
In reply, Johnson Controls India never got going fluently and were skittled for 91 in the 15th over. Identical bowling figures of 2/7 by Anikit Jain and Charles Godwin, shadowed Mayank Pal’s 29 run effort.
In the second encounter of the day, HSBC GLY easily chased DBOI’s 122-run target to post an 8-wicket win. The win was possible owing to a heroic all-round feat by R Raghunandan who first tool 2/27 and then scored 40 (27 balls).
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Abhay Kele, Chairman, Prithvi Edifice.
