Bao is a steamed (Chinese/Japanese) bread, made up of salt, sugar, yeast, flour and traditionally filled with pork, but one can opt for chicken, sweet potato, lamb, paneer along with fresh veggies, instead.

They are steamed in bamboo baskets which gives it the subtle woody scent. Baos have got popular in several parts of our country and are available right here in Pune too:

KINKI

Kinki BaoA fine dining restaurant in Balewadi serving an array of cuisines such as Chinese, and Asian. They also serve mouth-watering baos. This place makes apparently dishes out some great Bao.  From Pork to grilled chicken everything is worth tasting. Pork Belly along with leek, red onions and sriracha and Prawn Tempura consisting of pickled cabbage and Wasabi Mango, For a chicken lover, try their Honey grilled chicken with kimchi and mango.

THIKANA

Japanese fermented steamed bread served with soy ginger sauce and tomato dip and ahigh on taste. Their Baos are melt in the mouth with soft buns, which are filled with Veggies, chicken and mutton, Although their Bao is limited, it is one place in the city which you should not miss if you are a Bao lover.

GONG

Gong is the place to go if you’re looking for Asian delicacies. A variety of Baos are offered catering to both the vegetarian and non-vegetarians. Cottage cheese And sun-dried tomato baos dressed with Pickled carrot, Sriracha Mayo, and scallions. Avocado lovers should try their Tempura avocados bao- curry mayo picked with Chinese cabbage.

Crispy chicken katsu, Roast Duck teriyaki,  Baos with colourful veggies, torikatsu, wonton crisps and Beijing pork belly baos with green apple, kimchi, hoisin sauce, sesame oil scallion.

SWIG

Swig BaoChinese Bao now has a desi twist, a bao filled with classic chicken tikka, along with tartare steam buns. They also offer other cheese Bao which is heaven for cheese lovers.

The veg Bao stuffed with Mushroom spinach and chilly bun coated in sweet and smoky BBQ sauce is worth trying for vegetarians. Pork lovers can try their Spiced bbq pork stuffed buns.
