Neetu Khosla: Chemistry Professor Turned Pageant Winner

Pune Women power at the forefront yet again!

We caught up with 41-year-old, Neetu Khosla, a post-graduate in Chemistry, proud mother of twins and winner of three titles at the Mrs India Universe 2017 pageant.

An avid fitness enthusiast, this Puneite has been her own role model. She believes it was her determination and perseverance that saw her winning the crown at the pageant.

Neetu was in acute pain for a year, apparently suffering from spondylitis, when she decided to challenge herself to achieve her goals.

“The most challenging part for me was to take that leap of faith and believe in myself.

“Once I had recovered, I decided to work on my health and fitness and then enrol for the pageant, and it was only three months ago, that I could finally buckle up to a size 28, weighing 55 kilograms.

“As a professor at an engineering college, I never even dreamt of winning a crown; And it was only much later, that I got into fitness and started losing weight. My husband, a serving Colonel with the Indian Army, was my motivator,” she recalls.

Neetu acknowledges Pune as the city that gave her the the best things in life. “After my marriage I came to Pune in 1999 soon after which I was blessed with twins.

“Here I enrolled for the pageant, and won the titles of Mrs India Universe (World) 2017 and Mrs India Universe Glamorous. Not only this, I was also crowned as Mrs India Universe Maharashtra which was the cherry on the cake.

“Hailing from a defence family, the passion to do something for the country drove me. My mother-in-law always motivated me to work beyond my comfort zone.

“I was never worried about my 12-year-old kids and that somewhere didn’t let the pressure to build up.

“My husband used to take leave from his posting in Srinagar to take care of my children.

“The small girl in me always cheered up with the thought of shopping,” she said. “After winning the pageant, the first thing that I did was to doze off and then went shopping!”

Neetu hopes to work for the women of Maharashtra to help them realise their dreams, by sharing her experience…
