Pune is one city that loves its bread and really cares what does between the slices and buns…

Every lane is dotted with shops selling the quintessential Dabeli and Vada Pao. But, as always, the same record playing gets boring.

Our resident foodie hit the street to find the most innovative bun options this city can offer to make your Sunday truly bun-derful!

Paa Roti

Improvisation and experimental cooking is no big deal for the chefs at this outlet in Magarpatta. How about ditching you regular pizza with a closed one (Calzone) or trying buns filled with anything that your heart desires?

Or a roll that is stuffed with goodness and baked too? Try their classic coffee coated freshly bakes bun centrally filled with butter, butter bun with cheese or buns stuffed with vegetables in Italian sauce, coated with cheese and Italian herbs. They also have a twisted version of your dabeli and vada pao that you shouldn’t miss.

Address: Shop T 20 D, 3rd floor, Seasons Mall, Magarpatta.

Cost: Rs 200 for two (approx.)

Chai

How about trying non-vegetarian editions of your breads and buns?  Give them a try at CHAI, based in Koregaon Park. Apart from serving multiple versions of the chai, obviously, they also have a spread that includes the all-time favourite maggi, pancakes and a separate breakfast menu. Baked beans on toast, grilled keema bun, cheater’s sandwich is what you should savour here.

Address: Iricen Railway Colony, South Main Road, Near Lane 5, Koregaon Park.

Cost: Rs 400 for two people (approx.)

Pagdandi Books Chai Cafe

Chai, Burgers, Frozen Yoghurt, Desi Grill Sandwich, Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows is what experts recommend for this place.

But, we would suggest you try their chocolate cheese banana sandwich and the desi grill bunwich (triple layered club sandwich with burger patty) because we like to keep it extra that way.

Address: Shop 6, Regent Plaza, Baner Pashan Link Road, Behind Symantec, Baner.

Cost: Rs 250 for two (approx.)

Elephant & Co.

The one thing that stood out while we were out hunting a perfect companion to stuff in your buns was the salli kheena slider pao at the Elephant & Co. The Parsi style kheema coated with potato salli in a warm buttered pao is their favourite too.

Address: Shop 456, Goodwill Enclave, Kalyani Nagar, Pune

Cost: Rs 1,500 for two people (approx.)  with alcohol

Pack-A-Pav

After setting foot in the city of dreams, Mumbai, this tiny popup ideal for a quick bite stuff thing between your buns that you might haven’t expected. How about Bhuna Paneer Pav, Mushroom Shammi Pav, Tandoori Sriracha Chicken Pav or Butter Chicken Pav? Tempted already, then pay a visit and see for yourself.
