Zubair Poonawalla: In 30 mins, you can be in the mountains…

I was born and brought up in Bombay (now Mumbai),  studied there and moved to Pune in 1997 by chance. We always had a holiday home in Pune and I would love coming over to Pune for a weekend as it was so cool (literally!)… it used to be called as hill station those days. I still remember we never even used to switch on the fan.

I don’t know how and why… I just happened to like Pune as if something attracted me and I chose to move here completely. The city has been really kind to me and I have flourished, made good friends, keep myself busy with work and I have grown in my work and personal life.

Life is a big mystery and you really don’t know where you land up and Pune was my destiny I guess, where I really love to stay and I can proudly say it’s ‘My City’.

What I like about Pune is the location which means you are centrally located, be it making a quick trip to Matheran, Lonavala, Alibag or Goa.. they all really reachable.  In 30 minutes you are out of the city and you can be in the mountains which you cannot even think of doing in any other city.

Earlier people used to always ask me are you from Pune because of my surname.. and, now, yes, I proudly tell them I’m a Puneite!
