SUVs Prices Lower

The biggest beneficiary of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the motor vehicle sector has been the SUVs, according to a report.

After the implementation of the GST, the SUVs have become cheaper by anything from seven to 12 per cent, depending on the state where it is sold. It also coincides with the launch of many new SUV in the second half of this year.

Major Advertising Spend

FMCG major Emami has spend Rs 443 crore on advertising and promotions in the last fiscal year, says a report.

The company spent 17.5% of the total revenue on brand building despite demonetisation as other similar firms cut their campaigns. Emami’s products were endorsed by more than 27 top brand ambassadors including Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Maruti Revamp

Maruti Suzuki India is revamping its sales and services to cater to the demand of its young buyers and restructure its brand, according to a report.

India’s top carmaker is seeking to make 150 standalone showroom operational for its pre-owned car chain True Value, 60-70 dedicated service outlets for its premium retail chain Nexa and is also eyeing 80 refurbished outlets in its traditional outlets by March next year.

Data Prices To Drop

Mobile data prices will fall to Rs 50 per GB by 2020 from Rs 228 per GB last year, according to a report.

Research firm Analysys Mason said in such a scenario, 4G LTE data usage would go up to 6-7 GB per month and assuming 17% Wi-Fi offload according to current trends, 4G usage on cellular networks would hit 5-6 GB per month. On 3G data usage, the firm said it would reach 1.5-2 GB by 2020 because 3G tariffs will decrease along with the 4G prices.

Skoda Launch

Skoda has launched a new version of its top sedan model Octavia in India, says a report.

With a starting price of Rs 15.49 lakh, ex-showroom, the car will be available with two options. The petrol model comes with two engine options of 1.4 litre and 1.8 litre priced between Rs 15.49-20.89 lakh. The diesel model has a two-litre engine priced between Rs 16.9 lakh-22.89 lakh across four variants.

Huawei Offers Help

Huawei is in talks with Indian telecom firms to help them to evolve their current 4G networks and help them to get ready for the launch of 5G technology, according to a report.

The Chinese company is also pressing for trials of the new technology by next year. Huawei has also held some workshops with these firms to guide them towards the new technology.

Indian Brand Boost

Three Indian whiskey brands have made it to the top 100 worldwide spirits list last year, says a report.

According to a July International Wine and Spirits Research report, Officer’s Choice is second on the list, with McDowell’s sixth and Imperial Blue 10th.  Despite the alcohol ban in some states and demonetisation issues, Officer’s Choice retained its number one spot in the country, followed by McDowell’s and Imperial Blue.

New Entry

Chinese phone maker TopWise is planning to enter the Indian market with its own brand COMIO next month, a report said.

TopWise, which used to make phones for Indian brands like Micromax and Lava, is also eyeing a Rs 500 crore investment in local manufacturing, R&D centre marketing, the company says.

Amazon Plan

Amazon is planning to link its Indian sellers with its global network to present a combined voice in the marketplace when confronted with common issues, says a report.

This will help Indian sellers with compliance issues in the marketplace which are common all over the world like infringement, account suspension and blocked listings.
