The Young Puneites Wishlist for 2017

We are in love with this city for its culture, food, people and diversity. However, there are several  things that can make this city not just smart, but also a place where people can celebrate their lives. With several development plans underway, the citizens are seeing a rapid change in this bustling city, that was once considered, a sleepy town.

We spoke to a few Puneites asking what they would like to see the city administration work towards in 2017. So, heres a wish-list for the new year from Pune, for Pune !

  1. Efficient public transport

“Traffic in Pune has become unbearable so I seriously wish, this problem is solved. We keep hearing rumours about the metro starting in Pune. I wish this really happens and we finally get a good public transport system in the city,” says Shreya Sethi, a design student.

2. Public toilets and sanitation

Anchal Tiwari, a city-based student explains, “According to me, for 2017, Pune should focus more on the sanitation conditions. There are way more male public toilets than female ones and we need to change that. Also, more awareness about cruelty against animals should be spread, especially educating children about it.”

3. Fixing the potholes

Akshay Thaore feels that the biggest issue for him are the potholes, “ I hope that the city decides to work on the issue of potholes. It’s a major inconvenience and it needs to be rectified. Pune should also take up the initiative of making the city cleaner by placing a lot more dustbins all around.

4. Better traffic management

“I’m optimistic about 2017 being a better year for Pune with the initiatives undertaken by the administration, but one struggle I’ve faced every year, is the incessant traffic on the roads of Pune. My new year wish is for Pune to get better roads and traffic management,” says Romita Purswani and we couldn’t agree with her more.

5. Environmental care

Rohan Ranjan is keen that Pune shouldn’t lose the charm it was known for. “Pune is progressing in terms of industries and developmental projects. But we should still maintain what we were known for and preserve it. The climate here was so different five years back compared to what it is now. I feel that the city administration should cut back on some development projects and focus on the environment.”

We couldn’t agree more !
