L’ Alliance Française de Pune in association with the French Embassy in India, the Institut Français Inde, Avayava, Laboration Art Company, and the Kaveri Group of Institutes invites you to a contemporary dance program called YAMA with Laura Arend, the choreographer and the troop: Patrick Entat, Lola Mino, Olivia Caillaud, Nitsan Maragaliot.
Their piece is inspired by Buddhist philosophy around yoga and by Laura Arend’s travels in India. The Sanskrit word YAMA signifies self-control, austerity, restraint and moral duty. In opposition to this idea, the dancers will introduce their spectators to a dark world that reflects the shortcomings of daily life and the loss of the essential. The piece will explore our reality as a mirror of our society and our lifestyles; our selfishness which is particularly good at causing ourselves and others to suffer; our capacity to judge and ignore the views of others; our need to own that makes us dream everyday about what we cannot obtain, in spite of the bitterness that it evokes.
This piece is constructed as a journey leading to liberty and the emancipation of the self. For Dance is an extraordinary path to freedom, personal growth, healing and happiness.
