Well Planned And Efficient Drainage System Too Much To Ask For?

Come the monsoons and our roads and streets turn into a nightmare for citizens and commuters.

Overflowing storm water drains, back-breaking potholes and a poorly planned and maintained sewage system add to the traffic snarls and mishaps.

The rains also bring with a perceptible increase in vector-born diseases and given our poor drainage systems, this only poses a larger threat to our citizens.

Raising her concern on the huge crater like rain-filled potholes and overflowing drains on the roads, Shrishti Desai, a resident of Kondhwa Budruk says, “Be it a two-wheeler rider or a four wheeler, these 2-3 months of rains are the worst time for us.

There are drainage lines practically flowing onto the main roads. These drains are often left uncovered or are completely choked and if you dare walk on these roads, you can be sure of collecting garbage on the way.”

“Repeated complains to the corporation only leads to a few emergency temporary solutions and within a couple of days, it is back to the same situation.” says Prashant Nayak, a PR associate.

“The authorities respond most often only after three days of continuous complaining and all they do is clean up the drain temporarily and leave.

“Drainage systems are an overall problem in the city, not just for storm water drains on the roads, but even lack of proper sewage systems in houses and societies too.

When these drains become blocked, it could indicate further problems with its systems, and if they’re not fixed, then the problem of overflowing could get worse. In most cases, relining pipes could be the answer to how to resolve this problem, particularly if they have been cracked or damaged. Without the resolution of this issue, the city will not see any improvement for a while, especially in residential areas. Homeowners may have a hard time dealing with the backlog from the drainage system that could affect their homes-relying on local emergency plumbing services similar to Dependable Rooter & Plumbing (https://dependablerootersac.com/emergency-plumbing/) to help with unblocking their systems.

Several areas in the fringe of the city are not even connected to sewage drains and have to rely on septic tanks which require maintaince from plumbing services which could be found here.

Septic tanks and bunk boxes built under the ground are the only solution here, but they require periodical CLEANING, at a cost.” Nayak adds.

Speaking his mind, Vedant Upasani, an entrepreneur who shifted from Mumbai, says that Pune is much better than the state capital.

This season itself, it was reported that five people lost their lives succumbing to the potholes and improper drainage is the culprit here. Everyone knows that come the monsoons and citizens will be faced with such issues. Unfortunately, everyone turns a blind eye to it.

“Pune is supposed to be among the well-planning cities in the state, after Nagpur and others, but, I think it is soon becoming another Mumbai and there will be a time when people will be just washed away in these overflowing drains, unless a permanent solution is found.

“The city and its fringe areas are mushrooming with multi-storey buildings at every corner, but they lack something as basic as urban planning.

How are the plans of these buildings passed when they do not have a proper sewage line?” questions Nileema Desai, a blogger, and homemaker.

She continued stating that the city must find a way to help fix the sewer system. The drainage issues could be fixed with the help of a plumbing service (see here) or a local service. They could help clear the systems and properly dispose of waste. “I have seen the drain pipes of some buildings being connected to an open area or backyard where the entire wastewater is dumped, creating a breeding ground for insects and flies.” If only someone could contact a blocked drain plumber in Brisbane (or a company local to the area), everything could be fixed! The lines from the bathrooms are connected to septic tanks and expected to decompose. No one should have to live with a sewer system in their backyard.

“A city like ours cannot be expected to manage with such temporary solutions. It is about time that the people in power start taking cognizance and pay head to our problems.”
