Transporting the Pune palate to China

Bringing in the exotic flavours from China to prepare delicacies for the people of Pune, Baan Tao at Hyatt has launched a 10-day festival titled, ‘Bringing China to Pune’. A special à la carte menu has been prepared to bring out the essence of Chinese cooking.

The festival menu has been curated by Chef Sun Wenlin who has come in from Hyatt Regency Chennai to work with Chef Sunil Joshi of Baan Tao. “We wanted to make the dishes as authentic as possible. People are generally used to eating an Indian version of Chinese food which is very heavy on ketchup and spice. We want to bring out the Sichuan flavours of China through the dishes that we have prepared,” explained Chef Joshi.

Consisting of over 10 dishes, the menu is divided into appetisers, soup, main course and dessert with an equal variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options to choose from. The Wok Fried Sichuan Mushrooms in Soy and Pepper and the Crispy Fried Lamb in Hoisin sauce is a good way to start off this gastronomical experience. Sip on some Sichuan Hot and Sour Vegetable soup or savour on the Seafood, Asparagus and Coriander soup. The main course has a variety of dishes to choose from. The Wok tossed Bok Choy, Shitake mushrooms cooked in oyster sauce and the Stir Fried Prawns in Bell Peppers and Xo sauce are accompanied with Stir Fried Noodles in Vegetables and Yang Zhou Fried Rice that is mixed with pieces of chicken, pork and ham. For dessert, the choices are the Green Tea and Tofu Cheesecake or the Date Pancake filled with nuts and honey. The menu is available for both lunch and dinner options at the restaurant.
