You guessed right! We did go soup and salad hunting in the city, and here is what we found as a refreshing change from the quintessential Tom Yum Soups and Russian salads…
Bay leaf Restaurant & Bar
This casual dining restaurant at the junction of Kothrud, offers a wide array of multi cuisine dishes including some great soups and salads. Their vegetarian line of soups includes some amazing amalgamations of ingredients like kokum, coconut, spinach, zucchini and basil, apart from the basics. Their non-veg inventory includes specialties like Crab Meat soup, Sea Food soup, Chicken Shorba and more.

Chinese Room
East street is full of eateries but this one is legendary. Chinese Room has stood the test of time and quality. Their new additions -Mongolian Pork soup and Spicy Shanghai soup are worth a try.
For salads they have prawns, chicken and egg salad with a choice of dressing and mix veggies for the vegetarians.

L’Apicio
This café in Aundh offers some delectable soup and salad options like the Minted Pea and Ham soup served with soft poached eggs and parmesan croutons
Their Shaved Zucchini and Pomegranate salad is a mix of greens with grape tomatoes, black olives, melba crisps and freshly prepared house ranch with an option to add-on chicken and prawn.

China Toss
Are you in for a Rose Petal salad, or a raw papaya salad (Somtam Salad) or maybe the Beijing soup or a soup specialty from Tibet? Yes, they have it all.
Interestingly, the rose petal salad is a sweet and sour preparation with apples, grapes and rose petals drizzled with a tangy dressing of lime juice.
The Beijing soup has a thick consistency with chopped veggies or chicken, sourced directly from Beijing. The Thukpa is a specialty from Tibet with noodles and shredded chicken.

Mezza 9
A classic resto in Hinjewadi that is a perfect destination for an appetizing bowl of soup and salad.
From their Minestrone (Italian tomato, veggies and pasta broth) to Brocolli and Almond soup and Chupe De Pollo (Peruvian chicken chowder) they certainly have some exciting options
