The Robin Hood Army is a volunteer-based organization working globally towards curbing food wastage and eliminating hunger. Spread across 11 countries and 65 cities, the Army now has 14500 plus volunteers.
The organization began its journey in August 2014 and was started by Neel Ghose and Anand Sinha.
The organisation works to get surplus food from restaurants across to the less fortunate people, For the record, Pune’s Robin Hood Army has tied up with several restaurants to collect their kitchen leftovers and distribute this to the homeless people of the city.
A volunteer from Robin Hood Army explains “Giving is not just about donation, it is about making a difference. #Mission1Million was a massive success and we actually fed 13.20 lakh people across India & Pakistan on 14th & 15th August 2017.
The Pune chapter managed to provide 1,24,000 needy people food from orphanages, old age homes, leprosy hospital, Govt. Hospitals, Yerwada mental hospital, slums around Pune, non-aided schools in the remote areas, he added.
The Robin Hood Army believes that the problem is not the lack of food, but ensuring its availability to everyone who needs it. The RHA is a very decentralized organization and does not accept monetary contributions.
While our country gets ready to celebrate the 72nd Independence Day, this self motivated army is still fighting for freedom from hunger.
