Startup Story #28: BreathingRoom – A Workspace to Grow your Business

After facing various challenges of setting up an office for a non-profit organisation, Kaushal Sanghavi decided that he would work towards reducing the pain of others when it comes to looking for creative coworking space. Hence, BreathingRoom (BR) was born; This is a collaborative effort between Sanghavi and Mehernosh Bhathena. Started in 2015, the venture now has around 350 breathing rooms across India with the best facilities like high speed WiFi, white boards, projectors, a pantry and air conditioning for working solo or to conduct board meetings. Businesses looking to install air conditioning on-site may want to take a look at the advancement and development in the area of refrigeration technology being done right now by reading things like this Solaranlagen Portal with a German Article about Technology of Air Conditioning to get more information on the matter.

A workspace can be booked on the BreathingRoom app as well as on the site. “With this venture, we’d like people to really assess how they think about commercial real estate,” explains Sanghavi, who earlier worked for Amazon at Seattle for five years and later in Chennai for two years.

As of now, BreathingRoom has spread its wings across cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Delhi. As a policy, BR has standard pricing for work space across India . To work solo on a single desk, along with WiFi and a pantry, it costs Rs 79 per hour. A meeting room that can accommodate six people, along with similar facilities, costs Rs 399 per hour. A board room that can seat up to 12 people costs Rs 599 per hour.

Challenges

“The challenge with this venture was to reach out to all the business travellers. Most people who need a workspace generally go to a café or a hotel. These places don’t necessarily have a good infrastructure like reliable WiFi, etc. for someone to work. We had to learn how to address each market but at the same time, we had to stay true to what we want to build,” says Sanghavi.

They also had to work with handling the operations of the venture when they expanded.

The managers of the workspaces and BR have a tie up that allows customers to book a space through the BR website or app. The revenue is shared in such a way that 70 to 80 per cent of the profit goes to the facility manager while the rest goes to BR.

As a matter of fact, Sanghavi also adds that Breathing Room is not necessarily a platform for startups, but it also a place that provides for several growing businesses. So far, there have been 1000 businesses and 25,000 people who have used this service since the past 18 months. “The response has been really good. It has allowed us to grow our team of nine people and we have invested a lot more in the technology to put a stronger product out there.”

Future goals

“We started out with a bang but had many operational challenges to face. We plan on expanding to Hyderabad and Chennai this year. We definitely see BreathingRoom as a pan-India initiative. We might even try to tap overseas markets like Indonesia and Malaysia.”

So, if you’ve been looking for a small office space for rent then why not consider a space like this for your business!
