Startup Story #15: A witty initiative for writers

“The content industry in India is really difficult. There is a communication gap between the client and writer. Also, the payment is very less, therefore writers are not inclined to put in much effort. Due to this the content quality suffers and I really wanted to change this scenario.” With this agenda, Anshul Motwani began Witty Pen. It is a platform that helps startups and companies create content across all their marketing channels. Elaborating further, Motwani says, “Lot of companies are inclined towards content marketing now, it helps them get a return on investment (ROI) which is six times more. For this, they need a lot of content and we take care of the textual part.”

A B Tech student from Jabalpur landed in Pune on a quest to change the writer’s scenario. “In my last year of college I started Fad Bulletin- an intellectual content creation platform. Our content was based on everything that was going viral but with intellectual sense to it. I was working with a team of writers who became family. I saw them face a lot of issues in the industry and I decided I’m going to help solve it,” says the triumphant entrepreneur. Investing time in analysing and understanding the situation has helped the venture grow claims Motwani.

All of 22, he came to Pune without knowing a single soul and fighting the battle of not working in his flourishing family business. Yet, within months even before the name Witty Pen took shape he had his first client. “I attended a startup event in the city, where I shared the idea of my startup. That’s when a man who wanted his website content done approached me. I got 100 rupees out of it and gave 900 rupees to my writer. The validation I got from that reassured me that I was on the right path and I established Witty Pen in November, 2015,” smiles Motwani.

Now heading a team of 85 writers with 10 editors he ensures top quality content to his clients. “We work with clients from India and abroad. We make sure what the client wants is clearly communicated to the writer, then there is the editor who takes care of quality. This is how we bridge the communication gap that exists in the industry,” he states.

The budding entrepreneur also justifies that by selecting their writers through a tedious selection process, and allowing them to choose topics that interest them the most is how they generate flawless content. Witty Pen has writers work on topics ranging from software and technology to food and beverages.

Setting up in Pune has been beneficial in more ways than one says the Jabalpur boy. According to him, Pune has a good work environment and here you find a good mix of IT people and those interested in writing and culture. Motwani’s main goal for Witty Pen is, “to establish it as a platform which helps anyone to create and distribute content just from one space.” (http://wittypen.com/)
