Sanish Ambekar of Thane and Srushti Haleangadi of Mumbai Suburban claimed a double crown respectively in the Maharashtra State Table Tennis Championships at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi, on Sunday.

Banthia bags double crown
City lad Siddhant Banthia annexed two titles in the ITF Grade 2 meets held in Thailand recently. Siddhant prevailed over Syrian Hazem Naow 6-2, 3-6, 7- 6 (2) to bag his singles title. In the doubles final, Siddhant along with Parikshit defeated the rival pair of Watanabe (Japan) and Hua Chain Yu (Taipei) 6-4, 6-4. Siddhant, a Lakshya-supported players, studies at St.Vincent’s school and trains with Kedar Shah of Pune.

State Olympians awarded cash incentives
Maharashtra Olympic Association felicitated players from the state who had participated in the Rio Olympics. Lalita Babar, Kavita Raut (athletics), Deveindra Walimki (hockey), Dattu Bhoknal (rowing), Prarthana Thombare (tennis), Ayonika Paul and Heena Sidhu (both shooting) got cash incentives of Rs 1 lakh each handed over by former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar.
