Need to let off some steam after a hard day?

Binge-drinking with your pals is the common remedy adopted by many. A word of caution though, for this social habit can easily snowball into something more. Unbeknownst to many, alcohol dependence is not the only demon you wrestle while sipping your evening drink…

With alcohol prices skyrocketing, swiftly swigging beer or even a downing a few shots weekly could cost you between Rs. 15,000 to 20,000 a month! This buries you into a financial grave well before you exit your 30’s.

Sailee Punjabi is fresh out of college and working her dream job. Yet, despite bringing home a handsome pay check, her dream of buying her first car just seems to drift away further. “Getting a loan is turning out to be painful. Unfortunately at 25, I have managed to gather a bad credit score.” Maybe Sailee should consider talking to someone similar to Fast Loans to better understand her options with bad credit.

If you need cash now why not opt for a cash advance? Just because someone’s credit score isn’t the best, it doesn’t mean that they can’t use services that can assist them in getting their financial life back on track.

“I didn’t really connect it to my lifestyle until my boss pointed out recently. I guess eating out, drinking and shopping on credit have all rendered my credit profile useless in the eyes of the bank,” she complains. Sometimes ‘bad credit’ can also mean no credit. Sailee is fresh out of college and probably hasn’t built a lot of credit either. The no credit and bad credit mixed together makes her credit score look poor and mismanaged. There are credit cards to apply for with no credit and then they can be used to build credit but they need to be used responsibly.

Avi Sharma on the other hand, talks about peer pressure when it comes to alcohol. “Meeting friends for drinks after work is routine for me. I never really stopped to think about it.

“Honestly, I don’t particularly enjoy alcohol. Yet refusing it gets you tagged as ‘chicken’ or even ‘gay’. That’s how I started to chug regularly and now I crave for it!” he rues.

Mukesh Mirchandani shares his own alcohol tales. “Boozing regularly results in alarmingly high bills. These, along with angry looks from my irate wife ensure that I now drink only at home.

“Be it beer or whiskey- I’m all for buying it cheap and swigging aplenty,” he reveals, sharing that his neat tactic has borne fruit in the form of unbounded savings. The 37-year-old techie plans to invest his savings in seed capital for his dream business venture, which ironically, happens to be a Pub !

Nevertheless, Pune’s burgeoning pub-culture with an abundance of social drinking has resulted in several unhappy stories.

Trinisha Bhati, (name changed upon request) a 17-year-old has been in and out of rehab for 8 months now. On coaxing she reluctantly shares her experiments with binge-drinking.

“Coming from a Marwari household, I can say emphatically that alcohol dependence is unheard of for girls in our community. Going to rehab was my decision, because the withdrawal symptoms were more than I could handle.

“My folks couldn’t wean me off vodka. Also, if my relatives ever found out, my entire family will be ostracized from our community circle,” she says..It is evident that she had a rough time going through this experience alone.

While savouring your preferred poison very often isn’t the greatest idea, do consider all you stand to gain by swapping that pricey fire shot with a store-bought brew !

Pune365 : The consumption of alcohol is injurious to health. We do not advocate the consumption/use of alcohol, tobacco and other narcotic/ psychotropic substances that may seriously endanger your physical and mental well-being.
