Say Hello to the Tornado in the Sirsikar Home: Doodle

And It's Doodle !

Anju Sirsikar is a homemaker, Swastik, the dad is an entrepreneur.

He is allowed to eat ON the dining table. He is welcomed on to any lap that he chooses and has the freedom to cuddle up on any bed he feels like. That’s Doodle, the Shitzu that the Sirsikar family adopted when he was a year old.

Doodle with Niharika, Swastik and Anju

Now, at two and a half years, Doodle is the most pampered baby in the house, much to the chagrin of the daughters Lavanya and Niharika. Says Niharika, a student of commerce,

“Mom is the one who pampers him the most with everything.” Mother Anju, smiles in reply.

Angel and Doodle

Where Angel, their earlier cocker spaniel was the calm one, Doodle is the tornado flying all over the house. “Angel was so lady-like and proper.

Doodle is full of masti,” says Anju.

From having a girl who wouldn’t get onto the sofa to having a little boy who flew onto any surface he could, the Sirsikar’s spent some time getting used to Doodle’s ways.

Lavanya, Doodle and Niharika

“After Angel passed away, the house had become very quiet. We saw Doodle up for adoption and fell in love. Having a dog in the house always adds life to everything,” says Anju as Niharika nods her head in agreement. in the process, as Anju says, “We had to unlearn all the lady like behaviour that we took for granted with Angel.

Overnight we got a boy who was doing everything he wasn’t supposed to.”

His love, however, won them over easily.

Guest Role

A loving boy, Doodle is a gem when guests come in. He picks one guest and spends all his time trying his best to get the person’s complete attention. He is very persistent, as we saw. And if the person is scared of dogs then Doodle sits on Anju’s lap or peeps from behind Niharika to keep tabs on what’s happening. He isn’t expected to be left out of any action! “The only worry is when we lay the table and mom start’s wanting me to take Doodle away lest he climbs up on the table. Luckily he is on his best behaviour then,” grins Niharika.

The Attack

And Doodle gets the Melon !!

His favourite activity on a walk is barking at any dog going by. Not just that, he spends time peeping out of his home looking for dogs and cats to bark at.

“On a walk, if he sees a big dog coming his way, he quickly hides behind a car and as soon as the dog comes up, he goes barking. It’s hilarious,”

HIs bark is enough to wake up the neighbourhood. And he knows it. So when the family asks him where is the pigeon, one of his enemies, he runs to the balcony ready to bark at it or then at least at the squirrels on the tree or the cats to far away to catch.

“Otherwise he doesn’t consider his job done,” laughs Anju.

Trouble Trouble

Time to get pampered by Niharika

When he sleeps with Niharika, Doodle wakes her up for water and then asks to be let into the toilet. Unfailingly, on every such “morning after” Niharika has a mess to clean up. “He unravels the toilet paper, chews up the roll or just rips it apart. Only in my toilet, never in any other part of the house,” she sighs.

Listen to the Bark

A demanding little boy, Doodle barks to convey what he wants. So, if the family is eating a meal, Doodle looks at a plate and barks. Then Anju has to offer him everything one by one till he takes what he wants and stops barking.

So if he wants a treat kept somewhere, he looks up at it and barks. Finding out what it is that his highness wants is his human’s job. You can leave the door open and Doodle doesn’t go out unless he is sure his family is. If that isn’t attachment, what is?

Whoever said adopted pets can’t be part of the family, needs to see, how well an adult dog has adjusted to his lovely human family!
