Barclays clinched an exciting ‘Super Over’ victory over Atos in an encounter that stretched limits and patience in the 2nd Prithvi Edifice Cup 2016 Inter IT T20 Cricket Championship at the Nehru Stadium, here on Sunday.
Batting first, Atos pushed themselves and managed 117/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Chinmay Malvankar (38) proved to be the backbone of the innings.
Barclay’s reply ended identical; only just the scoreboard read: 117/6. The mainstay of the innings was Kumar Saurav 40 (36 balls).
In the ‘Super Over’, Barclays entrusted their faith in Kumar Saurab who set a 16-run target. Up against Atos skipper Vignesh Mohan, Kumar’s innings was laced with three fours and a pair of two-runs.
Later, Atos’ skipper Vignesh took the onus on himself. Facing Barclay’s Kanishk Singh, Vignesh scored 6 off the first 2 balls, before being bowed. Atos were now left with an equation that read: 11 to win off three balls! Chinmay Malwankar who was next in to bat managed just six runs and thus ended Atos quest of victory as they finished with a 12-run total.
Earlier, HSBC thrashed Extreme Webtech by 162 runs. The defeat was Extreme Webtech’s second in consecutive days.
HSBC scored a huge total 213/ 3 in their 20 overs. The innings was built on two partnerships. The first had, openers Dhaval Badgujar (52) and Vinay (45) put on a 104-run partnership for the opening wicket. Later, Jay Bhatia (42 n.o) and Vilkshan Dadwal (42) added a 70 runs for the third wicket.
In reply, Extreme Webtech folded for 51in 9.2 Overs. Gaurav Sawant (3/11) and Vilakshan (2/8) proved tough nuts to crack.
