Suhas Dixit has been passionate about trains since the time he could count on his fingers. This fascination has not died down with age, inf act become stronger and even more interesting. He has invested his dream in miniature train models which he showcases for children. Into his twentieth year of organising such an exhibit, Dixit makes sure every time the theme is different so people are amused and learn more.

This year, one of the major attractions of the show is the demonstration of the functioning of the famous Deccan Queen as it celebrates its 86th anniversary. It also features a working miniature model of Hayabusa Shinkansen –the fastest bullet train in Japan. A documentary film based on Indian Railways is showcased as well. The film provides all the information about steam and electric railways. With the help of a retired railway officer, Dixit understands how the railways function in order to make it as authentic as possible. “The landscape and signals are made by me. Also, the Japanese train was brought specially by a relative from Japan,” he beams. His enthusiasm is contagious as all the children gathered to watch the show look over in awe. “I feel that our country does not have much awareness about the railways and I want children to be educated about such things. Also, it awakens their creativity and they can make similar models as school projects,” explains Dixit.

The exhibition started on November 4 and is on till Tuesday, November 8 at Dikshit Paramdham, 281, Narayan Peth, Kelkar Road. Timings are 5-9 pm.
