Winter Arrested For Prolonged Cold Weather

Frustrated by the bitter cold, New York Police decided to take action against it, says a report.

An upstate New York police department was so fed up with the lingering cold weather that it placed winter under arrest, according to AP. The Depew Police Department wrote in a humorous Facebook post that it had arrested the season. Police said any more snow winter produces would be held against it in court.

The department also called for groundhog Punxsutawney Phil to turn himself in for predicting six more weeks of winter. Police joke that they’re willing to look past winter’s “most recent transgressions” if it works with the department.

Swift Justice For Star Struck Fan

If you rob a bank and then throw cash to impress a pop star, then you are asking for trouble, according to a report.

Police say the man from Connecticut, US, with a crush on singer Taylor Swift robbed a bank and then went to the pop star’s Rhode Island mansion where he threw cash over a fence in an attempt to impress her.

He has been charged with robbing an Ansonia bank, says a Reuters report. Police say “it seemed he wanted to propose” to Swift, so he drove about 90km to Westerly, Rhode Island, and started throwing some of the roughly $1,600 he’s charged with stealing over Swift’s fence.

Even Obituaries Can Serve A Purpose

It took an obituary to get a breakthrough in the case of a fugitive who had gone missing for decades, says a report.

Investigators said a woman’s obituary helped federal agents capture her fugitive son nearly four decades after he escaped from an Oklahoma prison, says an Associated Press report.

The 58-year-old fugitive was arrested at an office in Houston where he worked under a pseudonym.

The agency says investigators tracked him down after the obituary for his mother in Houston listed a son named Stephen Chavez, the same alias Paris used while living and working in the Houston area. Fingerprints confirmed his identity.

Prison Job Applicant Lands In Jail

A careless woman applied for a job in a jail in the US and landed in a big soup reveals a report.

The woman was applying for a job at a New Hampshire county jail but was arrested because it turned out that she was wanted on a charge in Maine, says AP.

Police say applied for the job at the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections. But workers soon realised she was being sought on a theft-related offence in Maine.

Reward For Stolen Cardboard Cutout

Locating a stolen advertisement may also prove rewarding sometimes, says a report.

A restaurant owner was offering a $100 gift certificate to the person who returns a life-size cardboard cutout of himself that was stolen from an airport, says AP.

He said he had no idea why anyone would want to steal the advertisement for Leunig’s Bistro. He added that he would like the cutout back because it cost $350.

Police say surveillance video shows two women taking the cutout of the man after they had just gotten off an inbound flight at Burlington International Airport.
