Paying $500 For A Free Apple

A woman ended up having to pay a big sum for a fruit which was given to her free in the first place, says a report.

The US Customs and Border Patrol fined the woman $500 for not declaring she was bringing a free apple into the US that she received on her Delta Air Lines flight from Paris, according to AP.

The woman said that the flight attendants had passed out the apples and she placed it in her carry-on to save for her flight from Minneapolis to Denver. Her bag was randomly searched by Customs. The woman said the agent asked her if her trip to France was expensive and when she said yes he told her it was about to get more expensive after charging her $500.

Customs declaration forms ask passengers if they are bringing any fruits or vegetables into the country.

Half Measures Won’t Work Sometimes

A man cut his car in half as a joke but the funny side is losing its charm, says a report.

A Kansas City suburb is pressuring the owner of a cut-in-half car adorned with a sign reading, “Divorced. She got ½,” to junk the junker, according to an Associated Press report.

The half-car was created as a joke by the late Edgerton Mayor Ray Braun who used to own the defunct gas station where the front part of the 1987 Chevrolet Citation is parked. Braun fitted the half-car with rear caster wheels and used to drive it in parades. Danny O’Neal now owns the property where the vehicle is.

But the city council president says the car has become “an eyesore” and the Edgerton codes department has told O’Neal has to dispose of it. O’Neal plans to argue it’s a “landmark” and memorial to Braun. Neither man was ever divorced.

A Monroe police affidavit says the 29-year-old Evelyn Washington was arrested on burglary and property damage charges.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram said that a responding officer found “a full tub of water and a plate of food along with half eaten Cheetos belonging to the victim on the toilet next to the tub.”

WiFi Causes Panic In Gym

The strange name for a WiFi connection sparked panic in a gym in the US, reveals a report.

A Michigan gym patron looking for a WiFi connection found one named “remote detonator,” prompting an evacuation and precautionary search of the facility by a bomb-sniffing dog, says an AP report.

Nothing was found in the search at the gym in Saginaw Township, about 140 km from Detroit.

The Saginaw Township police chief says the patron brought the WiFi connection’s name to the attention of a manager, who evacuated the building and called police.

A bit of carelessness over a camera landed a man in the US in jail, according to a report.

The Florida man ended up in prison after his dashboard camera showed police more than he intended, says an AP report.

The Palm Beach Post said that after the 25-year-old man was involved in a crash, he told a sheriff’s deputy he had been cut off by another driver and could prove it with his dashboard camera.

When the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy reviewed the footage, he saw the man burgling a beauty store. He was arrested on burglary charges.
