Goose Droppings Raise A Stink

A village in the US is debating a very crucial subject – goose droppings, says a report.

Residents of the Long Island village are divided over what to do about a glut of goose droppings around the village, according to AP.

Brightwaters Mayor John Valdini told Newsday that the village has gotten about a dozen complaints about its Canada goose population in recent months. But the village has also gotten calls from residents who want to protect the birds.

Love In Elevator Couple To be Honoured

An elevator romance in a campus is finally getting its due, according to a report.

Philadelphia’s Temple University is honouring the 45-year relationship sparked in the campus elevator, says an AP report.

Sharyn Rubin and Eric Schlesinger briefly met on move-in day on September 6, 1972, while she was moving in and he was operating a dorm building elevator. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Rubin formally introduced herself a few days later at a college mixer, walking up to Schlesinger and saying, “Hi, Mr. Elevator Man.”

The quote is now affixed to the elevator, which will be named for Shari Rubin Schlesinger.

Beauty Queen Prefers Tattoo to Crown

A beauty queen in US loves her tattoo so much that she does not care even after winning a contest, say a report.

The beauty queen in the Southern California desert community of Phelan has given up her crown rather than cover up her tattoos.

Sierra Leyde didn’t have tattoos when she was named Miss Phelan at age 17. But she celebrated her 18th birthday with tattoos of flowers on her upper arm and shoulder, and a shark on her forearm.

The Phelan Chamber of Commerce then asked her to sign a contract saying she would keep the tattoos covered while in her sash and crown.

Leyde told KCBS-TV she doesn’t think she should have to cover up because tattoos are now normal, but she decided to drop her title.

No Sex Please To Beat the Heat

A Colombian city has come up with a novel way to beat the searing heat, says a report.

Health officials in one Colombian coastal city have a controversial recommendation for residents trying to stay cool during an intense heat wave: Take a break from sex, says an AP report.

Santa Marta city health secretary Julio Salas sparked a mix of laughter and disbelief week when he urged residents of the Caribbean tourist mecca to refrain from sex during the day as part of a list of recommendations, such as staying hydrated and wearing loose clothing to prevent overheating.

Temperatures in Santa Marta have soared past 40 degrees Celsius and Salas says medical facilities in the city of 600,000 have been overwhelmed with patients complaining of symptoms of heat stroke such as nausea and headaches.

The Charm Of A Teddy Bear

A dog put his life at stake but could not resist the charm of a teddy bear, according to a report. The dog could not resist being lured away from a busy Massachusetts highway by the teddy bear, says an AP report.

The Massachusetts State Police got multiple calls of a dog dashing through traffic on Interstate 291 in Springfield.

Trooper Corey Brown responded and saw a Doberman Pinscher running down a lane. Brown grabbed a stuffed pink teddy bear from his cruiser. The dog loved it and grabbed it quickly, following commands to sit. The dog has been returned, unharmed, to the owner, who lives near the highway.
