Teetotaller Fined For Not Drink Driving

You can get fined for drink driving even when you are a teetotaller in the US, according to a report.

A man who was arrested on an impaired driving charge has settled his lawsuit against New York City for nearly $1 million, says an Associated Press report, which just goes to show the importance of having a good criminal and dui lawyer. According to the Daily News, Oliver Wiggins says he was charged in a cover-up after an officer ran a Brooklyn stop sign and hit his car in 2015.

He tested negative for alcohol and drugs. Three months later, prosecutors dismissed the charges. Wiggins says he had his driver’s licence suspended and his insurance company wouldn’t cover car repairs because of the arrest.

The New York Police Department referred a comment request to the New York City Law Department, which says settling the case was in the city’s best interest.

Twin Shock For UK Mother

A mother got a rude shock when she saw her ‘son’ eating a pie at a top store on a poster, says a report.

Sarah Joseph, from Grays in Essex, was on her way to the deli counter at the Canvey Island branch of Morrisons with her sister when she passed the poster, according to Mirror Online. She was convinced it was her five-year-old son, Kaiden, pictured happily eating his dinner.

“It looks so much like him – I can’t tell the difference. It really is the spitting image of him.” Sarah said that her son knows it’s not him, but nobody else can. She said that even the two boys’ haircuts are the same. And added: “They’re identical. They’re like twins.”

Living Among The Sands In Squalor

A couple and their three children were spotted living in a ramshackle dwelling in the desert – in absolute squalor, says a report.

The mounds of trash, old toys and furniture which caught the attention of a Southern California sheriff’s deputy passing through the desert. He spotted a hovel cobbled together with plywood and plastic sheeting, according to AP.

And then came the shocking discovery that a couple and their three children – ages 11 to 14 – had been living there for several years without running water, bathrooms or electricity.

The ramshackle dwelling was only about 4 feet high and 10 feet wide. Their father, Daniel Panico, 73, slept either in a trailer on the property with dozens of cats or in another vehicle, she said.

Inside, blankets were strewn everywhere and chairs were used to try to hold up the tarp ceiling. A makeshift kitchen was littered with empty bottles with cans of corn, peas and soup stacked on wooden shelves. Several holes on the property were filled with feces, officials said.

Reaching The Fire In Record Time

Firefighters in a US city created a record of sorts when they reached the fire site extremely quickly, says a report. And that was because the fire broke out in the building housing the Baltimore fire department’s headquarters, according to an AP report.

A fire department spokeswoman told The Baltimore Sun that an electrical fire triggered the evacuation of the 85,000-square-foot downtown building the fire department shares with the city’s finance and information technology departments.

The firefighters responded in a matter of minutes, in addition to the fire chiefs already in the building.

An Offer You Cannot Refuse

Mississippi can go to any lengths to win votes but a school in the US went even better, if a report is to be believed.

So what’s one way to get students to vote for a school bond measure? Promise them they won’t have to take Mississippi. That’s what an email sent to students at Warren Central High School in Mississippi said. The principal says the email was sent in error, according to AP.

The Vicksburg Post said the email asked the students to help pass a bond measure to renovate district schools. The email said those who vote in March are exempt from finals.
