NFAI celebrates 53rd Foundation Day

National Film Archive of Indian (NFAI), Pune set to celebrate its 53rd Foundation Day with a film festival showcasing restored classic films on February 4 and 5, 2017.

Open to all, film lovers can watch classic films on the big screen with Dolby Sound. NFAI presents films such as Gulacha Ganpati (1953), Kagaz Ke Phool (1959) and Meghe Dhaka Tara (1960) in the NFAI Auditorium during the two-day festival.

NFAI joins Janwani Pune in presenting the Pune Heritage Walk on February 4 at 4pm. The hour-long walk is open to all and offers a comprehensive tour of the NFAI facilities. You can also have a guided tour of the film storage vaults at the Kothrud premises.

Renowned actress, Deepti Naval handed over the original script of the film Chetna (1970). Prakash Magdum, Director, NFAI expressed, “We are grateful to Deepti Naval for providing us the original script for preservation.”

NFAI has also added over 1000 film synopsis, song booklets and rare photographs to its vast collection. The first batch was acquired from a Mumbai-based former 16mm film distributor, containing various regional films from the mid-1950s and early 2000s.

Puneite, Anjan Barve also made a recent donation of 500 film synopsis and song booklets from the 1970s to 1980s, and 200 rare photographs of films personalities. Another noteworthy donation was 25 Hindi and Bengali films in 16 mm format from Kolkata-based producer Sunil Jindal.
