New Year Coming

As the curtains get ready to go down on 2017, the city has gone into planning mode, be it the quintessential resolution lists or the year-end partying, Puneites are all raring to bring it on…

We at Pune365 decided to leap frog into the immediate future, and ask our citizens on what they’re yearning for, in the coming year and here is what they said:

Shreyas Kulkarni, restaurateur: Pune has evolved far too much, and this erstwhile pensioner’s city has now become much cosmopolitan with increased crime rates, Not only just women, we see children indulging in criminal activities as well, besides being victims themselves. I would like to see a much wiser sense of respect and gratitude prevailing in the city. People have started taking each other for granted and treating everything like a commodity without emotion and feelings. It is really sad to know that the city is now losing the status of being among the safest cities to live in.

Tarveen Kaur, play school teacher: I would like to get rid of the spit jerks, vomiting red liquid from their tobacco stuffed mouth almost anywhere and everywhere they want to, painting the town red. Like, don’t they really consider the fact that there are other people who will be using the pavements or taking the staircases that they have decorated with their disgusting stuff? Moreover, it is surprising to see well educated people doing the same, sometimes on the sign board that reads ‘please don’t spit’. I wonder how well decorated their houses might be.

Sayali Sharma, finance associate: Without doubt, someone please get rid of the road side Romeos, waiting at every corner of the lane with their scanner like eyes, judging women from head to toe. Their not-so-humble gazes and ridiculously derogatory personal remarks make us feel disgusted and annoyed. Fighting back isn’s always an option, as most of us do not want to get into all this and ruin the mood for the day.

Pritesh Gupta, HR: I would like to see Pune more civilised while riding on roads. The city that has the maximum number of two-wheelers has very few riders who are well read about the traffic regulations and norms. Even the pedestrians seem inconsiderate about their own safety. Adding to this, the policemen appointed to keep a check on the same, work as per their own convenience. At festivals and dates of importance, they become hyperactive, but why not at different days of the year. Thanks to irresponsible drivers and riders, many become victims of fatal accidents. Also, the huge meteor-sized holes on the roads are enough to break one’s bones. During the monsoon,  they are the worst, and you actually have to guess the depth before taking the leap of faith.

Aakash Makhija, PG student: I’ll like to see more number of bicycles on road, like Pune actually used to be. With the lack of appropriate infrastructure, no one is interested anymore, in riding a cycle, hence increasing the number of motorised vehicles on road. Young adults don’t even know that they can ride one on the bicycle tracks (if available) and commute from one place to another.
