Meet Ron, The Spaniel Child At The Keshkamat’s

Ron With Mom Medha

If you had a dog who didn’t dirty the house, rip apart clothes and chew up the furniture, it would be a dream come true, for many. Some would call him a saint…

That’s exactly how Medha Keshkamat describes Ron, her four-year-old Cocker Spaniel.

Furholics_RON“I’m blessed to have a child like him,” she says, hugging the handsome boy.

The Saint

“He is so pure about everything. His love is beyond comparison and the way he understands all of us is amazing. Ron is the only saint in the house,” smiles Medha of her darling.

The only time he barks is when he wants a particular toy.

“Ron came home because my daughters Mihika and Ruchita wanted a cuddly puppy and now they pamper him like a younger brother,” adds Medha, a home maker.

And should Medha raise her voice, Ron runs away. “i have to call him and tell him I was angry with the girls, only then does he come back for a cuddle,” she adds.

Not bothered about being Alhpa in the house, Ron devotes his time completely to Rohit when he returns from work. The remanning part of the day is devoted to Medha and the girls. “It is because he is secure about his place at home that he doesn’t try to bully us or to draw our attention to him,” says Medha thinking aloud.

Ron With His Lovely Family

The Day

Ron wakes his parents -Medha and husband Rohit at 6 am everyday. Then he spends the day following Medha and napping. His alarm clock tells him at 5 pm and he gets either mom or Ruchita/Mihika to walk him. A half hour brushing and grooming session is a must to keep his long locks tangle free and shining. “Sandeep Mulye taught me all the right ways to groom Ron.”

At playtime, Ron brings out his squeaky toys – which he selects on his own from his favourite shop. If he wants to play fetch, he gives his toys to every person at home so nobody feels left out.

Dinner is at 6.30 pm. The gentle fellow doesnt eat if his paws are unwashed or if his ears are not tied. It is a ritual that HAS to be followed.

“Then a nap in my lap following which he has to stare outside the window for half an hour! I have to keep the curtain open just for that,” explains Medha.

At bedtime, Ron gets a treat and if the girls want to stay in the parents room, he whines and nibbles at them to go to their room so he can sleep on the bed!

Come Sunday and Ron stays in bed for as long as the family does.

Training is a must. Medha attributes Ron’s good behaviour to it partly being who he is and partly to good training. “Sunita Pundir did an excellent job at training Ron and in helping us understand how and why we should train him.” The results show!

Unlike other homes, when mom cooks, Ron gets fed first. “Fish, chicken whatever I cook, i give Ron first. I think that is why he never begs or steals food, even if it is in easy reach!”

We so love this saint !
