Max-n-Coco at Charu’s Farm

An avid traveller, organic gardener and photography buff, Charu Shrotri runs to his farm to spend time with Coco, his doberman and Max, his German shepherd. The clean green surroundings and the pattering of paws around his house are what keep him going back.

Farm life

“The double advantage of moving my dogs to the farm house was that they got enough pollution free natural surroundings to move around and my frequency of visits there increased which is a great escape from daily city routine,” says Charu who goes to the farm every two weeks for a couple of days.

The homecoming

Max and Coco are all over the car when their human reaches. Scratches are the order of the day – on the car and their human.

Then the conversation between the trio begins. “All these years I have been talking to my dogs just the same way I converse with others have learnt that they understand us pretty well,” says Shrotri trying to get Coco to sit still for a photo.

Max, the favourite

Of the two, Charu has a favourite in Max. “Max was a puppy when Cleo (my earlier German Shepherd died). His expressions are identical to Cleo’s. He reminds me of him so much,” he says patting the big boy’s head. He is quieter and calmer while Coco just can’t stay in one place. She is also the bossy one.

Lets play

Wandering around the farm, the dogs have their own route picked and planned. The fun time is when they dance under the sprinklers in the lawn. They really enjoy that and playing tag as they race all across the property.

The only place the two are not allowed access is the vegetable garden. “Max loves raw vegetables,” smiles Charu in explanation.

Saying bye

The duo knows when Charu is set to leave. So the dirty looks come his way and poignant stares. “They know I will be back so its limited to stares, ” says Charu who was a mentor for a Manson Rescue programme for stray dogs in South Goa.

Au revoir !
