Jazz And The Indian Connection

For the Love of Jazz

In their search for new areas of innovation, jazz musicians were enthralled by Indian classical music when Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan crossed shores back in the 60s. The exotic sounds from the sitar, improvisations on ragas accompanied by polyrhythms on the tabla created fresh excitement amongst the audience and jazz musicians. Collaborations between jazz and Indian musicians began to sprout.

This edition of ‘For the love of Jazz’, explores the development of this association over the past few decades and its current scenario. The presentation will be handled by Ashwin Panemangalore.
