Parasappa annex inter-command cross country title

Middle distance runner, Sepoy M H. Parasappa of Madras Regiment Centre emerged winner in the Army inter-command cross country championship held at Dighi conducted by Bombay Engineer Group (BEG), Khadki, on Friday, October 7.

The 21-year old, Parasappa, who ran his first major race, took 39:15 minutes in a 12 km race leaving behind Sepoy Mohan Damor (Artillery) and Avinash Sable (South Western Command), who finished second and third positions respectively.

The Bijapur boy, Parasappa, was recruited in the Madras Regiment in the open category, 10 months back said, “I am stunned and thrilled.” Due to my hard training for the past two months at BEG with coach Subedar Dattariya Jaybhai “I could achieve my target”, the runner said. Meanwhile Army’s top six middle-distance runners, who are training at the Army Sports Institute (ASI) under the Services banners were not allowed to participate in the event.

The 12 km track was designed at Dighi (armys shooting range). Hosts Southern Command won the overall team championship followed by Eastern Command and Southern Western Command. More than 40 athletes took part.
The meet was organised under the supervision of Brig Dhiraj Mohan.

Results: 12km: 1- M H Parasappa (SOuthern Command, 39.15mins), 2-Mohan Damor (Southern Command); 3- Avinash Sable (South Western Command); 4- Sony Tomar (Southern Command), 5- Tinku Yadav (Southern Command), 6-Krishna Singh (Eastern Command).
Team championship: Southern Command (13 pts), Eastern Command (55 pts), Southern Western Command (60 pts), Northern Command (63 pts), Western Command (65 pts), Central Command (87 pts).
Madhya Pradesh Academy lift hockey title

Three goals each by Gourav Bhagtani and ANiket Varun helped Madhya Pradesh Academy (Bhopal) drub Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) 8-3 to claim the inaugural All-India SNBP boys’ U-16 hockey tournament at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge-Balewadi, on Friday.
Krida Prabodhini (Pune) defeated Kohinoor Academy (UP) 12-0 to claim the third poistion. The winners got Rs 30,000 while runners-up received Rs 20,000. Multiple Olympian Dhanraj Pillay was the chief guest.

Twenty-one outstations teams had participated in the league cum-knock out tournament, said tournament convenor Firoz Shaikh.
