ICI-PC To Hold Key Conference

The Indian Concrete Institute Pune Centre (ICI-PC) is organising a national level conference, CEMCON 2018, on the topic of Defect Free Construction Emerging Technologies and Materials.

It will be held at C.V. Raman Auditorium, IISER Campus, Baner, Pune on December 7 and 8. Gautam Chatterjee (IAS) Chairperson, MahaRERA, has consented to be the Chief Guest for the event. He will deliver the keynote speech at the inaugural session.

Ujwal Kunte, Chairperson Indian Concrete Institute Pune said that CEMCON 2018 is being organized in the era of rapid development in housing, infrastructure, and smart cities with the challenge of speed, minimum carbon footprints, maximum safety, and quality.

“Construction with minimum defects becomes need of this hour. It would be a golden opportunity for all to meet on a national platform to see the integration of the research, theory, and practice. CEMCON 2018 also includes exhibition and demonstration of live products.”

Defect-free construction has been a challenge to the industry due to lack of skills, technology, and knowledge, that is why such Acts as the California civil code 896 has been put into power for defect cases. The industry not only spends an enormous amount of money and man-hours on rectification and rework, but it also impacts the credibility of the civil engineering fraternity. The new regulations like RERA are adding further to the responsibility of civil professionals towards defect-free construction. This makes the topic very relevant to the Civil Engineering Community.

Students from any college/institute can submit papers on any topic relevant to the theme of the conference or any other topic related to cement, concrete, construction materials and techniques. Papers would be shortlisted from the submitted entries by the ICI-PC Technical Committee and top three contestants would get an opportunity to present their papers at the conference on December 8.
