Pune is the closest getaway for me from the madding crowd of Mumbai. It’s calmer, unpretentious and the home of the National Film Archive of India where I saw the classics of world cinema thanks to the kindness of its legendary chief P K Nair who alas is no more. Pune for me is also synonymous with the sponge cake n shrewsbury biscuits of Kayani Bakery. And last but not the least, the city is dotted with excellent eateries serving local cuisine.
