#Furholics – Meet Traum, Amit Karun’s Cocker Poo

He goes everywhere that Amit Karun does. Right from friend’s homes to restaurants to drives and even holidays!

He enjoys the attention he gets, loves the fact that his human looks for ways to keep him entertained and is delighted at the prospect of TRAVELLING.

That’s Traum, the 2009 born Cocker-poo – cocker spaniel poodle mix.

Taken for his very first ride on the day he came to Amit, Traum happily peers out the window or then snuggles up in his seat when he has had enough. “The smart boy knows how to roll the car windows down, so the child lock is always enabled,” says Amit, an entrepreneur.

What puts Traum apart is not just his pedigree, it is also his gentle temperament. “He is very patient with children, adults and other dogs. So much so that he is unfazed even with aggressive dogs trying to take him on,” adds Amit.  Surrounded once by a big pack of dogs on a beach in Goa, Traum wad little bothered.

He ignored them and walked right beside Amit who wad quite upset with the situation! Not one to walk on a leash, he knows when and where he is going for a walk and chooses not to wander off.

What is also very very different of Amit and Traum’s relationship is that there is no fussing, kissing, cuddling that happens. Both love their space and love each other enormously, but without all the display.

When Traum needs petting and hugging he comes for it, and the minute he has had enough, he walks off.

A very practical and independent dog, Traum (‘dream’ in French) has taught Amit a lot. Amit admits,

I have learnt to move on from him. He doesn’t fuss over me when I’m upset, he expects me to deal with things as a mature individual should.

The very well behaved dog has never chewed up things at home. “I’ve never left him wondering about what to do. So, he always knows what he has to do. That automatically means that there are no mistakes,” he explains.

What is special about their bond is that every New Year’s Eve, Amit makes Traum a promise. And every year, the promise is kept. He promised Traum a holiday in snow on New Year’s Eve 2017.

Sure enough, inspite of all his fears of flying Traum, Amit ensured that promise came true when they flew to Chandigarh and drove up north to play in snow.

Three hours of walking, playing and skiing in the snow later, Amit was exhausted.

“Traum had a blast, and, he didn’t want to leave! I was happy to be able to do this for him as cocker-poos are supposed to enjoy the snow and Traum loved it,” says Amit.

There are special promises for 2018. Traum knows what he has to look forward to. And he dreams those dreams that he knows will come true.
