Feminine Side To Biking

If the film ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ were to get remade with female protagonists, the Pune women biker group – ‘The Bikerni’ would make the perfect cast!

It was 2011 when a Puneite and passionate biker, Urvashi Patole, found other female bikers on social media and decided to form this group in the city.

The group soon spread its tentacles to cities like Chennai, Delhi, Bengalaru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Rajkot, Mysore and Kolkata.

They then went on to create a world record in 2011 for the largest women’s expedition on the highest motorable road with a journey from Delhi to Ladakh. However, the world record was registered in 2013.

Today, the group has more than 1000 women. And, the Pune chapter cherishes the presence of 50 active members.

The Pune chapter follows a routine of at least two rides per month. The journey could be either short or even an overnight one. Recently, they went off-roading with the Mumbai members and explored Ambey Valley and Mulshi.

If you want to be a part of the adventurous family of The Bikerni, you must be at least 16 years old and of course a female. The minors are allowed to only ride a non-geared two wheeler in line with the RTO guidelines. On the other hand, adults who don’t have a bike can enjoy the expedition on a scooty thrice. However after this, you need to get yourself a bike.

To top it all there absolutely are no restrictions on the kind or engine capacity of the bikes…

The ‘Bikerni’ aspires to be an inspiration for other women to live their dreams unapologetically!
