While traffic violations are more than common in Pune, not every citizen is aware of the strict vigil and electronic surveillance that records offender violations at various locations of the city.

Consequently, challans are raised against the vehicle numbers and these fines are to be settled at the earliest to prevent further legal process including suspension of license etc.

The E-challan system is a comprehensive digital solution for transport enforcement and  provides for instant access to information and also eases the compliance by the defaulter. It also ensures complete transparency.

Speaking to Pune365, officials of the Police Traffic Department shared the various options available for citizens to check the challans ( if any, in their name/ vehicle number) and how these payments can be made:

The first step is to visit Pune’s transport website. In Pune the eChallan App is the simplest way to pay your challan and settle the fine.

Paying Challan through the ‘eChallan App’:

  • There is a section that mentions your violations and the fine you need to pay. This can then be paid directly.
  • Choose the appropriate link and you will be asked to enter certain details depending on the type of traffic violation.
  • Enter the details and pay your challans. You will be given options to pay your challan using your Master or Visa Card.
  • Do not forget to enter the Captcha in the space provided and before clicking on “Submit”.
  • You will be redirected to a safe/ secure page to make your payment.

If you’re planning to pay the challan through Paytm wallet:

  • Visit or download the payment app.
  • You will be able to see “Pay Traffic Challan” option.
  • Enter your city name.
  • Enter the traffic challan or your vehicle number.
  • Choose your payment method. You can make the payment using your debit/ credit card, net banking, or your Paytm balance.

Once you choose the payment method, you will be redirected to a safe and secure page where you can process the payment.

Once you have made the payment, you will receive an email and SMS to your registered email ID and phone number instantly.

If you’re wish to pay the traffic challan offline, visit any traffic police station that is closest to you. Here again, you can settle the payment using your Debit/ Credit Card.

It is not advisable to have pending traffic violation fines against your account. If there are any pending violations. it is best that it settled at the earliest.

For the record, delays in paying these fine is punishable under 174 of IPC.
