Furholics: How Rambo won the hearts of Dhruv Chaudhuri & family

Around midnight in the summer of 2015, Dhruv Chaudhuri was driving home from Camp. He happened to look out of his window and saw a cruel human dropping a puppy out of a car. Angry, Dhruv realised the puppy was being abandoned. He had to drive a considerable distance to take a U-turn. The car had disappeared but the little one was being attacked by the big dogs in the area. Dhruv couldn’t help but pick him up and take him home. “I had recently lost my dalmatian, Mowgli, and the thought of getting another dog was not there,” says the AVP, operations, Multifit Wellness Pvt Ltd.
image2Fate had another plan. In no time, the puppy had won over Dhruv’s parents and sister’s hearts! “We thought we would keep him as a watchdog in the society, but when we left him downstairs, he whined and cried. We gave in rather easily and he lords over the house now,” smiles Dhruv. The cute boy was named Rambo.
Quiet only the first night that he was brought home, Rambo soon started showing his naughty colours. And Dhruv took him everywhere that he could. “Pet-friendly cafes, friends homes, for drives, he loves it all. In the last few months I’v been really busy so haven’t been able to go out with him much. So my Sundays are when we do things together or just chill at home,” says Dhruv of Rambo who pretends to be strong and fearless.
A very smart boy, Dhruv has taught him to sit, stand and bark. “He has learnt to push door handles to open doors by himself! Just goes to show that the breed doesn’t matter,” stresses Dhruv.
Rambo goes for walks as his regular exercise. Apart from that, when he wants to play, he goes to play with Blacky, a girl who stays in the society. He harasses her and makes her play with him. Then there are the times the wild genes wake up and he escapes. “He manages to wriggle out of his collar and runs away, mostly to a canal close to home. He comes back stinking, dirty and obviously very happy. Then we have to give him the one thing he hates – a bath downstairs,” grins Dhruv. And we can see Rambo slink out of the room when he hears the word BATH!
Dhruv’s tips to keep fit
As dogs grow up they keep you on your feet by taking things you don’t want them to and running all over the house. You chase them to get those things back.
A 20-min run or walk- depending on fitness levels 20 mins. Three 15-min walks through the day are good.
Play hide and seek, football, fetch, catch, most dogs love the games.
They wake you up early in the morning to be walked. It’s a great way to start the day!
