Deepika Padukone: The Beautiful Star Who Captures Many Hearts

She is among the most beautiful women to ever grace Indian cinema whose stunning presence in her first Hindi film Om Shanti Om captured many hearts.

Deepika Padukone, like her badminton champion father Prakash, took to the sport and reached the national level. But her good looks got her into modelling and she gave up badminton.

After a great debut she did have a lean spell in 2010-11 and her acting ability was also questioned by critics. But she had great determination and she often studied veterans Hema Malini and Helen’s body language to help her with her own.

She made a good comeback in 2012 and has not looked back since then. Here are a few films of hers:

Om (Shah Rukh Khan), a struggling actor in the 1970s, gets obsessed by superstar Shantipriya (Deepika Padukone). However, Shantipriya is secretly married to producer Mukesh Mehra (Rampal) who kills her during a fire after she gives birth to their child out of wedlock.

Om tries to help her but she perishes. He dies as Shantipriya’s child is born and his soul gets into the child, also named Om. The film goes to the 2000s when Om, now a superstar, with his friend Pappu (Talpade) seeks to avenge Shantipriya’s death.  They find a lookalike Sandy to help them.  Will they succeed in trapping Mukesh?

Love Aaj Kal (2009)

Jai (Saif Ali Khan) and Meera (Deepika) are a modern couple who break up to pursue their careers. Jai stays back while Meera moves back to London. They both move on with Jai falling for Jo and Meera for her boss Vikram (Khanna). And then there is Veer Singh (Kapoor) who convinces Jai to go back to India and get Meera back in his life.

Veer has his own tragic tale to tell. Jai goes to India and surprises Meera and their love rekindles. But Meera has now committed to Vikram and this complicates matters. However, Jai gets the job of his dreams in San Francisco and leaves. But he is not happy and he suddenly realises that he loves Meera more than ever. He returns to India again.

Pinky (Deepika) is a poor girl who lives in Mumbai’s chawls. But she has big dreams of becoming a top skater and further her career through a television show. But tragedy strikes when a fighter named One-Shot Nandu (Mukesh) knocks her down in a freak accident.

This renders Pinky blind and all her dreams are dashed. But Nandu, feeling remorse, tries to help her to fulfil her dreams which she doesn’t give up on. Nandu trains her to skate despite her blindness and he becomes her partner. Will her dreams be fulfilled?

A three-way love affair turn highly emotional after Meera (Penty) and Veronica (Deepika) fall in love with a playboy Gautam (Saif). Meera is a simple girl living in England with her husband Kunal (Hooda) but they don’t get along. Gautam sees Meera and immediately starts flirting with her.

After the breakup, Meera is taken care of by Veronica who loves the high life and gives her friend a taste of it too. Eventually, Veronica finds Gautam and the three live together. But Meera begins to like Gautam and son does Veronica. Relationships get complex before problems are sorted out.

Goliyon ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013)

Two families – Rajadi and Sanera – are at loggerheads in a village in Gujarat. Their fight intensifies after there is a murder. Ram (Ranveer), who makes money selling porn films, is rebuked by the elders in the Rajadi clan but he turns out to be a brave individual.

He manages to infiltrate the Sanera camp and boldly entices Leela (Deepika) who falls for him. Her mother, however, is planning to marry her off to an NRI. Things get worse when Ram’s brother is killed by the enemies. Ram elopes with Leela but things do not work out the way it should and tragedy strikes.
