Mercedes To Expand Dealer Network

Mercedes-Benz India is mulling expanding its dealer network for new as well as used cars to more small cities and towns in India, says a report.

The luxury-car manufacturer is hoping that this move will contribute as much as 40% to its sales volume.

These markets currently account for 20-25% of the company’s India sales. It plans to open more outlets in such places in the next one year, adding to a dealer network that is already bigger than those of competitors BMW, Audi and Jaguar Land Rover.

Nestle To Sell Health Unit

Nestle has put its skin health unit up for sale, according to a report.

The maker of Nescafe and Perrier water is ditching its underperforming businesses to fend off criticism from an activist investor demanding an overhaul.

Nestle said it was exploring strategic options for the unit, saying “the future growth opportunities of Nestle Skin Health lie increasingly outside the group’s strategic scope” and did not fit in with a sharper focus on food, drinks and nutritional health. The skin health unit makes Cetaphil and Proactiv skin care brands, Restylane wrinkle fillers and prescription dermatology treatments.

Louvre Group To Launch New Brand In India

Europe’s Louvre Hotels Group (LHG), in partnership with Indian firm Orange Tiger Hospitality (OTH) is introducing its new brand ‘Kyriad’ in India, says a report.

As part of the master franchise agreement, OTH will be responsible for operating and managing Kyriad branded hotels in India and the Indian sub-continent, a top official said.

LHG also plans to use a similar master franchise route to introduce its two other brands like Première Classè and Campanile in the Indian market over the coming years, he added.

Hyundai Tops In Vehicle Exports

The India arm of Hyundai Motor Corp has regained top position as India’s largest exporter of cars and SUVs in the April-August period, says a report.

In the process, it beat the local unit of Ford Motor. Hyundai Motor India exported 71,645 vehicles from India during the five months, up 23% from the same period a year earlier when it was ranked second.

Ford India’s shipments to foreign markets fell 12.5% in the period to 65,176 units.

Jio Subscribers Surge In July

Reliance Jio Infocomm has added a record number of 11.78 million mobile subscribers in July, easily outpacing its rivals by a distance, a report reveals.

In the process, it has cornered nearly half of the country’s growing broadband market.

With the latest additions, Reliance Jio touched 227 million subscribers at the end of July, surpassing Vodafone India and Idea Cellular individually with 223 million and 220 million respectively in the same period, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

Hima Das In Endorsement Deal

India’s champion athlete Hima Das has been signed by sportswear company Adidas India for an endorsement deal, according to a report.

The company said in a statement that the athlete will now be equipped with the best products that Adidas has to offer for her racing and athletic needs.

Hima Das made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal at a world event, when she bagged a gold medal at the women’s 400 m at the IAAF World Under-20 Championships in Finland. She continued her winning streak when she bagged a gold and two silvers at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia recently.

Chinese Mobile Firms Launch Sub-Brands

Chinese smartphone players in India have initiated a second wave of sub brand launches, says a report.

They are betting on dual branding to accelerate growth by differentiating across price segments and distribution channels, industry executives and analysts said.

Poco, RealMe, Innelo are the new sub-brands of established ones such as Xiaomi, Oppo, and new player iVoomi, respectively. Huawei has been operating with its sub-brand, Honor, for some time in India.
