Firm May Swap Coke With Pepsi

Jubilant Food-Works (JFL) operated Domino’s Pizza could swap Coca-Cola for PepsiCo, says a report

This move may result in JFL ending its 20-year exclusive deal with Coke in the country, sources said.

Domino’s is in talks with rival beverage makers such as PepsiCo as part of a move that industry watchers say is aimed at cost savings. With a store count of 1,144, Domino’s is the single largest quick service restaurant chain in the country operated by the listed.

ZEE Opts For Airtel After Jio Break-Up

Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEE) has entered into a 3-year multi-layered partnership with telecom major Bharti Airtel, according to a report.

This comes shortly after removing all its content from Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio after a dispute over price. As part of the strategic partnership, Airtel and Zee will work closely on creating exclusive video content for Airtel’s video-on-demand app Airtel TV and ZEE’s over-the-top (OTT) app ZEE5.

Also, over 50 million Airtel TV app users will get access to ZEE5 content including ZEE5 originals, movies, TV shows, plays and more as the subscription cost will be bundled under Airtel TV’s plan.

Emami Drops Acquisition Plan

Emami has dropped out from the race to acquire GSK’s Horlicks and Kraft Heinz’s Complan and Glucon-D after reviewing its strategy, says a report.

The firm’s decision was a result of its plan to defer its entry into the food sector at present, a top official said. Emami will make investment in FMCG start-ups instead to gain expertise in targeting millennial consumers, selling through e-commerce firms and modern trade.

It has plans to roll out a separate premium product line in personal care and health only for e-commerce and large retail chains, he said.

Setback For Patanjali Ayurved

Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved, which posted over 100 per cent growth  about a year ago, faced a fall in demand as the competition grew in strength, says a report.

Citing data from Kantar Worldpanel, it was reported that Patanjali’s sales volumes grew just 7 per cent during October-March 2018 against 52 per cent growth in the corresponding period in 2016-17.

Toothpaste and honey were the only two categories in which it expanded market share over the past year, while its share in soaps and edible oil remained the same.

Maruti-Mercedes Raising Prices

Maruti Suzuki India has raised prices up to 6,100 rupees across its models to partially offset the increase in commodity and distribution costs and adverse foreign exchange rates.

The price change is already in effect and varies across models and is up to 6,100 rupees (ex-showroom Delhi), Maruti said.

German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz, too, is raising prices across its models by up to 4 per cent from September.

Facebook To Stream Spanish Football League

Facebook has acquired the media rights for the Indian subcontinent of Spanish football league, La Liga, says a report.

La Liga is one of the most watched football leagues and home of popular clubs Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

The social networking site, which has 270 million subscribers in the country as per La Liga, plans to live stream all the 380 matches of the league.

Twitter Unveils Lite Android App

Twitter has launched Twitter Lite Android app in 21 more countries, including India, that will minimise data usage, load quickly on slower networks and take up less space on a mobile device, says a report.

The app, built for 2G and 3G networks which are still in use in several parts of India, helps a user save on data while using it, like Facebook Lite and YouTube Go, the micro-blogging platform said.

With a much smaller footprint of three megabyte (3MB) installation size, Twitter Lite app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and it will now be available in over 45 countries, it said.
