Telcos Plan To Woo Pilgrims

Mobile phone companies Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio Infocomm are planning to woo the 130 million people expected to arrive for the Kumbh Mela with special services and plans, according to a report.

The event starts today and will run over two months. On offer are radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags to locate those who might get lost, apps that offer realtime travel information, emergency helplines and area routes.

Apart from live streaming of all Kumbh proceedings, content has also been created to draw devotees to their platforms. These include religious discourses, virtual tours of pilgrim sites and devotional songs. The Kumbh Mela will be held between until March 4.

Airtel To Transfer Part Of Stake

Tanzania said Bharti Airtel has agreed to transfer a part of its stake in Airtel Tanzania to the local government, says a report.

This will raise the East African nation’s holding to 49% from 40%.

The announcement comes after meetings between President John Magufuli and Bharti Airtel chairman Sunil Mittal to resolve the Tanzanian government’s concerns that the shareholding pattern will change when Airtel’s African unit goes for an IPO.

Maruti Raises Vehicle Prices

Maruti Suzuki said it has raised prices across its range of vehicles by up to 10,000 rupees due to increase in commodity prices and foreign exchange rates, says a report.

The revised prices came into effect from January 10.

The company had last month announced its intention to raise vehicle prices in the New Year. But Maruti had not stated the quantum of the hike.

Samsung Set To Unveil S10 Next Month

Samsung Galaxy S10, one of the most anticipated flagships of 2019, is finally set to be launched, says a report.

Without revealing any specifics, Samsung has started sending out invites for a Galaxy Unpacked 2019 event where it is highly expected to unveil the Galaxy S10 formally.

The event is scheduled for February 20, in San Francisco. It is likely to be the place for the regular Galaxy S10 model to launch, as well as the Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S10 Lite (aka Galaxy S10 E), and a 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 variant. Additionally, this year’s Galaxy Unpacked event is expected to the place where Samsung will unveil its foldable phone that could debut as the Galaxy Fold or Galaxy F.

MG Motor To Launch SUV

MG Motor India, a wholly-owned arm of China’s SAIC Motor Corp, said it will launch a sports utility vehicle (SUV), Hector, in the middle of this year, according to a report.

This will signal its foray into India.

The MG Hector will go in to production in the second quarter of 2019 at the company’s manufacturing facility at Halol, Gujarat, MG Motor India said in a statement.

Apple To Cut Production By 10%

Apple is cutting down its current production plans for new phones by about 10%  for the next three months, it was reported.

The tech giant told its suppliers in December to produce fewer of the new iPhones than what was planned for the March quarter, according to sources.

Prabhat Dairy To Enter Animal Nutrition Sector

Prabhat Dairy, a company that focuses on milk and dairy products, is planning to foray into the Prabhat Dairbusiness, says a report.

This includes cattle feed, nutrition supplements and animal genetics. Prabhat Dairy has entered into a strategic alliance with Denmark-based DLG Group, as part of its plans to foray into animal nutrition business.

As a part of the plan, Prabhat Dairy has signed a joint development agreement Denmark-based with DLG, a company into high-quality vitamin-mineral feeds.
