My Brilliant Friend and The Story of a New Name, the first two of the four Neapolitan novels that have made Elena Ferrante the most talked about novelist today, are the topics of discussion at this edition of The Book Club. They are novels of growing up, featuring the friendship of two girls from a poor neighbourhood in Naples who struggle to make their lives in a violent and stultifying society that seeks to keep women subdued.
