5 reasons why you should head to The Sassy Spoon

The time has come for Puneites to eat, drink and indulge at The Sassy Spoon in Koregaon Park. This new entry to the Pune food scene has brought with itself a whole new range of European, Mediterranean and South East Asian influences. Bringing their sass and perfection from Mumbai, owner and founder, Chef Rachel Goenka along with Chef Irfan Pabaney are all set to tantalise the eager taste buds in the city.

Speaking to Pune 365, Chef Rachel Goenka talks the additional touch she’s put to the menu, “We recently changed the menu in our Bandra outlet. We’ve added a lot more Asian flavours in the dishes. We have carried that menu here as well. There is a lot of overlap between the crowd in Mumbai and Pune but our season specials and mains have remained the same. So far, the response has been great and people love the food, especially the desserts.”

One doesn’t need a reason to go to The Sassy Spoon but we’ve listed a few here to convince you further.

Iced cocktails and beverages

Infused with different liqueurs, the drinks here are refreshing with flavours like pomegranate, citrus, green tea, plums and much more. The must try concoctions include ‘Indus Gimlet’ which is a great mix of lime, gin and chaat masala and ‘Morning Brew’, an interesting coupling of espresso and whiskey. The drinks menu also includes a whole range of non-alcoholic drinks to choose from as well. The ‘Soul Cooler’ is a mocktail amalgamation of kokum, lemon, cilantro, green chillies and fizz.

South Indian connection

Chef Rachel and Chef Irfan do not shy away from bringing in traditional south Indian spices to their dishes to innovate. With the addition of the Goan poi bread, there are several things to try. Do not miss out on the Sri Lankan spiced chicken stuffed in poi bread, mini pulled pork poi sliders and the prawn pakoras in tangy mango chutney. The Kerala lamb is an exotic dish that pairs well with a buttered brun.

Dreamy ambience

Taking up a wide space to seat 130 people, The Sassy Spoon is a great place to enjoy your meals both indoor and outdoor. The ambience exudes sass with its chic interiors, completed with warm and wooden furniture around. To top up the outdoor experience, along with great music there is also a cosy water fountain that reminisces of old European charm.

Rich desserts

This restaurant satisfies the hungry ones all the way till dessert. The menu includes ‘Sassy Stacks’ which is a layered red velvet cake in thick cream cheese that is served with fruit caviar. The other indulgent option is ‘Coffee Almond Fudge’, a warm dessert served with poached apricot and ice cream. The ‘Sticky Toffee Pudding’ is a foodie’s true delight to have. This sinful dessert is drenched in caramel sauce and topped with candied ginger.

The Sassy Teaspoon

The restaurant will also host its dessert and patisserie outlet, The Sassy Teaspoon. Located on one end of the restaurant, this tiny place has an unusually wide variety of tea cakes, tarts, macaroons, pastries, jams, brownies, freshly baked breads, cookies and eggless ice cream options. The must try items from here include the rose macaroon and rich chocolate cupcakes with a generous topping of chocolate ganache. The guava chilli, raspberry, strawberry balsamic sorbets are a great choice and they are all eggless.
