4 Days to Ganeshotsav: Songs to listen to this festival

Ganeshotsav wouldn’t be the same if it weren’t for the music played during procession and during the prayers. Music used for both purposes are quite different. This year, the streets of Pune will see its people dance to the tunes of several Bollywood and Marathi films as well as religious tunes.

At Pune365, we have made list of 20 songs, that can be used for prayer purposes and during the celebrations, in no particular order.

Bappa Morya 

A devotional song sung in Marathi by Kailash Kher, the music of this song was composed by Harsshit Abhiraj.

This Marathi devotional song is sung by Brijesh Magoo and is sure to heighten the spirits of the festival.

 

Deva Ho Deva

Mohammed Rafi’s voice and Raamlaxman’s tunes make this song a favourite on the first hear itself.

Ganapati Bappa Morya

Ganapati Bappa is revered as the remover of obstacles and this devotional song sings in praise of that.

Composed by the renowned duo Ajay-Atul, this song brings out the emotions that are attached with celebrating Ganeshotsav.

 

Jai Jai Mangal Moorti Ganesh

This is a worshiping song dedicated solely to Bappa and can be used during the prayer processions as well.

Vakratunda Mahakaya

Sung by the Late Jagjit Singh, who is known for enchanting people with his voice, this song is a soothing devotional melody.

Sukh Harta Dukh Harta

During the festival, it is this aarti that is used to pray to Ganapati and seek his blessings.

 

Jai Ganesh Jai Ganesh Deva

Sung in praise of Ganapati, this song is used during the aarti of the idol.

A devotional song from the era of the Peshwas, this song will have even the ardent of devotees singing it in their beloved god’s praise.

Deva Shree Ganesha, Aneepath (2012) 

This song has been a festival favourite with its catchy rhythm and lyrics. It has the perfect beats to get everyone in the mood to celebrate this year.

Mourya, Don: The Chase Begins (2006)

This energetic number showcases the pompous glory that goes into celebrating Ganeshotsav.

Shree Ganeshay Dheemahi, Virrudh (2005)

A musical piece, this song is a soothing prayer to Ganapati. It features during a prayer scene in the film.

Hey Ganraya, ABCD 2 (2015)

This song has been composed by music duo Sachin-Jigar, who have made the beats of the songs that go perfectly well with the festive mood.

Ganapati Bappa Agle Baras Tu, Aasoo Bane Angaarey (1993)

This Madhuri Dixit hit number is very famous even amongst devotees of Ganapati. The song is composed by Rajesh Roshan.

Sindoor Lal Chadayo, Vaastav (1999)

In the film this song marks the downfall of the enemies as Bappa is known as the remover of obstacles. The song is composed by Jatin-Lalit.

Jhingat, Sairat (2016)

This song from the film Sairat has swayed people across the country. Though it isn’t a song dedicated to the festival, we are sure Puneites are getting ready to celebrate Bappa’s arrival with grandeur by dancing to its tunes.
